We’re Back — And The Mountains Are Calling!

These are challenging times for many people, therefore we are the more grateful and excited to say: we’re back on track— strong, bold, and in a brand-new home base in Kalaw.

This isn’t just a return — it’s a new beginning. We, the MAO team, are now spending months exploring untouched mountain villages, hidden caves, refreshing waterfalls, and forgotten trails that few have ventured before. These routes are more than paths — they’re stories waiting to come alive.

At this point MAO is in the middle of exploring new trekking routes and completely new adventures for you and your family in the Kalaw-Inle area in Myanmar.

As soon as we ready we will inform you, so that you can come and enjoy the experience yourself!

New Routes & New Adventures

Here a little preview what MAO has in mind for you beginning 2026:

• Mountain Villages: Trekking through misty ridges to reach remote villages where the smiles are as warm as the morning sun. Stay overnight with local mountain tribe families, share their meals, see their intriguing dances, and experience a way of life and culture so different then your own in these beautiful hills.

• Secret Caves & Waterfalls: We’ll guide you to caves echoing with raw beauty combined with the adventure of abseiling, while enjoying coffee cooked above a fire and eating with your hands. You will visit waterfalls challenging you to climb down and are perfect for cooling off after a day of trekking. These places are so off road you won't find them on tourist maps.

• Inle Lake by Boat: Journey with a local long boat across Inle Lake, weaving through floating gardens and stilt villages. Different local artists are creating their products right at your side. Such a strong contrast with the rugged mountains, again a complete different beautiful world you enter.

• The Old Vintage Train: For an awesome taste of nostalgia, we take you on the vintage train, slowly winding through the mountains — a moving window and awesome experience into Myanmar’s historical past, while stopping at train stations having the idea you stepped straight into a western movie. Together with the breathtaking beauty of the highlands it creates an unforgettable experience.

• Myanmar heritage tour: We love history and found tucked away in the narrow streets of Kalaw and surrounding town, houses that have stood for nearly a century — some 85 to 100 years old, built with hand-hewn timber and stone. These homes aren’t just relics; they’re living history, sheltering families who maintain the old ways of life. They still exist and the owners are super friendly and welcoming us.

• The Local food experience: Exploring around Kalaw is not just a feast for the eyes — it’s a journey for all our senses. You’ll find yourself warmly welcomed while time slows down, and meals are prepared the traditional way. Think of sticky rice served with juicy tender meat, vegetables you didn't even known they exist, fresh tomato salads, fragrant garlic oil, and local herbs you’ve never tasted before. Here you can try the famous Shan noodles — thin and silky, rice noodles come with a light yet rich broth, minced meat, and a hint of pickled vegetables. Eating here is an enjoyment, but trying making it yourself side by side with the local tribe people in their environment is a complete different life-changing experience!
